Some names can cause people to judge a dog and react positively or negatively/fearfully when meeting it. Depending on whether the dog is a pet, therapy dog, search & rescue dog, tracking dog or any other dog that works with the public, it is important to use a name that conveys the proper image. Happy searching! Popularity: The most popular dog name in North America is Sam, Sammie or Samantha (which means "listener"). By socializing one's puppy early on with a variety of new and unfamiliar people (including calm and gentle children), on a regular and ongoing basis (for at least the first two years of the dog's life), you can help prevent serious behavioral problems such as shyness, timidity, and aggression from developing as the puppy matures. Once a puppy has all of his puppy shots (usually by 16 weeks of age), he should also be socialized with other friendly dogs, and acclimated to new environments beyond the owner's home and property, by being taken for regular daily walks on a Read More Go to Site

Votes:0 What to Do if Your Dog is Lost Some times we dogs wander off from home and get lost. Its scary for us if we just cant find our way back. We know you are looking for us but we cant tell people where we live. The best thing is if we are always wearing a tag with our name and address on it. If we dont have that, a little thing called a microchip helps too. It doesnt hurt to get it put inside you and if the nice lady or man with the truck picks us up, they can use a thing called a scanner to see who we are and how to find our moms and dads. We dont mean to make you scared but most moms and dads get real worried if they cant find their dogs and run all over the place looking for us. There are things moms and dads can do to find us. It's limited to the preferences of a few people. Even today, with overpopulation at insulting levels, some people are striving to develop breeds for some "purpose" that seems clear to only them. Many breeds that once had very specific purposes have even been bred so as to be better accomodated in today's society. Votes:0 Pet Health Building a relationship with your veterinarian Your veterinarian is the best source for advice on the overall health of your pets. He or she can perform a complete physical on your dog or cat and inform you of any health problems. The first time you take your pet to the vet, some of the most common diagnostic tests he or she will perform are fecal exams to detect internal parasites and blood tests for more serious diseases. During the physical, your vet will feel the animal's abdomen, listen to the chest for heart and breathing sounds, check the condition of the coat, look in the ears for ear mites and infection, examine the eyes to make sure they are clear and free of disease and inspect the mouth for signs of tartar build-up and gum disease. kids and their mom and dad. I used to be able to come in the house and
play. They even let me sleep in the house. The children would run and I
would chase them around. When I was little they would let me jump on them
and even playfully bite them. The family would laugh and encourage me to
play like that. They gave me lots of toys such as socks, shoes and stuffed
animals. I had so much fun... Those were the days. As I got bigger, I would accidentally knock
the children down. I would try to bite them on the cuff of their Read More Go to Site
Votes:0 Since before 4000 B.C., the Norwegian Elkhound has faced icy weather, rugged terrain, dangerous animals... and still performed as a superior hunter, herder, guard and companion. Votes:0 Information Sheet Dogs - A Vegetarian Diet? Part 1 (this page):- Introduction -- Basic Principles -- What They Eat Part 2: - Sources of Nutrients Introduction But they need meat don't they? You'll probably often hear people say " but dogs are carnivores, and carnivores need meat. " However, the true facts are not that simple. Scientific studies have described the "all meat disease syndrome" in which animals fed meat alone (without the addition of vitamins and minerals) develop soft bones, general poor condition and sometimes die. The condition is attributed to lack of adequate calcium, iodine and vitamins A and B1, and to a poor calcium to phosphorus ratio. Meat is particularly deficient in calcium. The natural diet is far more varied. Wild dogs and cats eat not only the meat but also the Read More Go to Site

Votes:0 Working Obedience into Everyday Life by Jane Gill July, 1997 In the last issue of the Pyr-A-Scoop , there was an excellent article on obedience which mentioned the importance of working it into your daily life. For many beginning trainers this can prove a stumbling block. The tendency is to go to a six-week course, figure the dog is trained (BIG ASSUMPTION!), and then only call on those behaviors in the situations where we most want them, and are least likely to get them, such as at the vet's office. Then we proceed to label the dog stupid or willful. Dogs do not generalize well. As an example, last night I was seated in my favorite living room chair, devouring a box of Wheat Thins. Conrad came by, and proceeded to lobby for some. Since I never give treats for free, I said "Sit!" Read More Go to Site
