Assateague Animals and Plants

Information on the Plants and Animals of Assateague Island, Virginia - Events, Web Links for Lodging, Weather, and Other Information - A great variety of animal and plant species has adapted to a sometimes perilous life on this shifting barrier island located along the coasts of Maryland and Virginia. With sections of Assateague managed and protected by the National Park Service, the Fish and Wildlife Service, and the state of Maryland, Assateague offers a unique opportunity to observe plants and animals of the Mid-Atlantic coast in an undeveloped, natural environment. In most sections of the Web site, the approach has been to start with basic information on the plants and animals most often seen by visitors to Assateague Island; more thorough information and information on less frequently Read More

DMS Model; Introduction

Votes:0
DMS Model; Introduction Dimethylsulphide (DMS) is an important sulphur-containing trace gas of marine biogenic origin. The revised conceptual model of a marine pelagic food web gives a central role to planktonic bacteria. Recent experiments have shown that consumption of dissolved DMS by microbial metabolism may be more important than atmospheric exchange in controlling its concentration in surface watwers and hence its ventilation to the atmoshere. In order to analyze the dynamics of DMS production in the upper ocean, a flow network approach has been chosen and adapted from the plankton community model of Moloney at al. (1986). The present edition (level 1) of the model can be used to investigate the the effect of selected parameters on the production of DMSP,DMS in the water column, and Read More
